Hot Stone Massage
Stone mssage involves the application of water-heated basalt stones (Lava) of varying sizes to the energy centres of the body to help relax the muscles and reduce pain or discomfort, and aid the healing process.
During a treatment the client lies on a couch and the therapist applies oil to the skin before gliding the stones across the body’s meridian lines. In some treatments large stones are placed on the body, in the palms of the hands, and coin-sized stones are lightly wedged between the toes. Heated Chakra stones align and balance the seven main energy centres, benefiting the whole body, not just specific areas.
Using hot stones to massage the body creates sensations of comfort and warmth. You should feel deeply relaxed, allowing you to let go of any stress held within your body. The massage can be deeper and more intense as the heat penetrates and relaxes the muscles. Warm stones expand the blood vessels, helping to move blood faster around the body. This ensures that every cell in the body receives more oxygen and nutrients, while at the same time waste material is removed more effectively through the corresponding increase in lymph flow. Warm stones also sedate the nervous system.
In certain cases cold stones can be used to help muscular injury and inflammation. The application of cold stones stimulates the nervous system by causing the blood vessels to contract and increase the lymph flow of waste materials to help the body detoxify and heal.
