About Jan Attkins
I became a Reiki Master in 1996 and started teaching Reiki in 1998. It has been a wonderful journey. I’ve heard it said that you teach when you are a slow learner. This is really true for me because during every workshop I teach, every treatment I give, every Reiki Share I attend, I always learn something new. My students and clients continue to be my teachers.
I feel I have lived through several lives during this one, always unconsciously learning for the future… as a general nurse and midwife, eventually specialising in neonatal paediatrics… as a wife and mother of three boys, now all grown up and following their own paths in life… as a producer in the television and video production company I ran with my husband, personally specialising in moral, ethical and social action areas.
In 1990 I was introduced to Chuck and Lency Spezzano, who are the founders of the Psychology of Vision. I attended and assisted on numerous workshops, eventually producing several training videos for them. I will be eternally grateful for all they have taught me over the years.
It was at one of their workshops in London that I was first introduced to Reiki. I was having one of my very rare asthma attacks. I didn’t have an inhaler and Daniel, a friend, came over to me and asked if I would like some Reiki. At that stage I had never heard of Reiki, but was willing to try anything to be able to breathe properly again. So Daniel sat behind me for about 15 minutes with his hands on my back over the lung areas and gradually my breathing eased. There and then I knew I had to learn how to do this for others and so my healing journey began.
It was as if I was driven to learn as much as I could, so as well as Reiki, I now practise Aromatherapy, Reflexology, Hypnotherapy and CranioSacral Therapy.
Life is made up of so many choices: some easy, some scary. Sometimes you feel like taking a risk; other times you feel so stuck, it seems impossible to see your way through, but when you are in the flow it is amazing how you just find yourself in the right place, living your purpose with little effort. That was how we found ourselves living on the beautiful, healing Isle of Arran. Our lives would have been so different if we hadn’t trusted the process; I doubt if I would even have been writing this!
I hope you find this website a useful resource. If I have not met you yet, I hope to do so soon.
With love and Reiki,
Jan
